Manning picks Marshall

The best player in the state of Kentucky’s 2012 class has decided to play in Conference-USA. Scott County standout Tamron Manning committed to Marshall Tuesday evening.

Along with Marshall, the 6-foot-4 wing was considering Duquesne, IUPUI and Dayton. Manning chose Marshall as the best fit for him and is excited about the potential in the program.

Always known as a basketball talent, there were questions about what position he would be able to play at the next level. This summer Manning proved his skills were plenty good to play the two in college. When TDP observed him he dominated the Kentucky State AAU Tournament in every facet of the game while playing for KYA. Manning scored it from all three levels – perimeter, mid-range and at the rim – rebounded well from the wing, locked up opposing players on the defensive end and got his teammates easy buckets when distributing. What’s even more impressive is because of his strength and lateral quickness he can guard multiple positions at the college level as well.

As a junior, Manning averaged 16.5 points and 4.5 assists per game at Scott County. He joins New York lead guard Kareem Canty to give Marshall an impressive backcourt in their 2012 recruiting class.

Kentucky developing a C-USA pipeline

Manning’s decision to head to Marshall comes on the heels of another Kentucky standout committing to a Conference-USA program. In late September, Lexington Christian Academy wing Taylor Barnette committed to the University of Central Florida.

Barnette proved to be, not only one of the best shooters in the state, but the entire nation over the summer.

Manning and Barnette met up last season on January 28, with Barnette’s Lexington Christian squad prevailing 55-51.
