Breaking Down 1st Week of September

6 Sep

This is the 2nd weekend of Official and Unofficial visits. Also noted are a list of recent commitments, transfers….

  • Toledo Whitmer’s Nigel Hayes, 2013, continues his tour of the Big Ten this weekend traveling to Minneapolis to visit Coach Smith and the Gophers. Nigel holds a number of offers from the Legends and the Leaders, including the big one from the Buckeyes.
  • Tyler Ptacek – ’13 Parma Padua SG: After a great spring and summer on the AAU circuit, Ptacek earned several Division I scholarship offers from college coaches; but focused most of his decision making process in the North Carolina area. On Tuesday, Ptacek made his final choice when he announced that he will be attending UNC-Wilmington. Credit Associate Head Coach Jamie Kachmarik, a Rossford, Ohio native, with the get on this one.
  • Antonio Campbell – ’13 Cincinnati Taft PF: Campbell, an Ohio University commitment, attended his first day of school at Cincinnati Taft on Thursday; transferring across the river from Covington (KY) Holy Cross. A skilled and wide-bodied 6’8 PF, Campbell will make Taft one of the teams to watch in Southwest Ohio in Division II. A resident of the west end of Cincinnati, this will be Campbell’s first time playing at his in-district school.
  • Cincinnati Aiken’s Austin Grimes is down to his final three scools: Austin Peay, Northern Kentucky and Jacksonville. Expect an expedited commitment from Austin as he has a strong lean toward Austin Peay. Expect the staff at NKU to do make one final run and try to get him on campus.
  • As discussed previously, 2013 wing Deonte Cole will visit NKU on Sunday. If Coach Bezold and the Norse offer, expect Cole to be the 1st member of their 2nd recruiting class since becoming a Division 1 program.
  • Although a non-OH/KY student athlete, 6’7 wing Cole Murray from Delphi, IN is visiting Kent State this weekend. Cole is down to a final 2 of Kent State and Northern Kentucky. He is nearing a decision next week after his final visit.
  • Noah Bramlage – ’15 Otawa Glandorf PF: The athletic sophomore forward will start his fall off with an unofficial visit to Miami (OH) this weekend. Following that, Bramlage will travel to the University of Toledo the following weekend.
  • On Wednesday, we wrote about an influx of Canadian prospects into Kentucky high school basketball. Now, TDP has learned that Scott County HS has received two transfers from outside of the Bluegrass state. 6’9 PF Neil Bunshoten has joined Scott County’s team via Holland, while 6’10 C Jordan Tribble comes to the school from Florida. Both prospects are talented seniors who are being recruited by both mid and high major Division I programs; and both are likely to attend a year of postgraduate prep school after their year at Scott County.

Please stay tuned for more information about the Fall Recruiting Period, the looming signing day and insight into who is visiting who as we travel through September.
