Late in the week, and through the weekend, we saw three commitments come off the board in Ohio; with several more prospects receiving new offers. With the July recruiting period rapidly approaching the news is only going to continue to be as hot as the temperature…..
- Zack Denny – ’13 Dayton Valley View SG: Denny made a surprise commitment on Thursday, as the 6’1 combo guard with the pure shooting stroke popped to Bowling Green. Denny, who held almost 10 Division I offers, is excited to have an opportunity to play at the mid-major level in the MAC; where his shooting ability will give him a chance to potentially earn minutes early.
- Jeff Speelman – ’13 Newark Catholic C: Speelman made his commitment this week as well, making the pledge to Division II Ashland. Speelman had a variety of offers at the D-II level, and is a good get for Ashland as he just continues to get better and better.
- Danny Monteroso – ’13 St. Clairsville SG: Monteroso ended his recruitment on Sunday by giving his commitment to Boston College, for football. Monteroso, who was considered a low major Division I basketball prospect, will suit up at wide receiver for one of the ACC’s finest football programs.
- Kwan Cheahtam – ’13 Cincinnati Winton Woods PF: Cheatham received his first offer at the mid-major level on Thursday as Akron called and extended the opportunity to the 6’9 inside-outside forward. Cheatham has interest from low to high majors, but expects to see several more mid-major looks come his way in July.
- Austin Grimes – ’13 Cincinnati Aiken SG: Grimes received an offer from Robert Morris on Wednesday, marking his 7th offer at the Division I level. Grimes reports four MAC offers to go with Robert Morris, Bethune Cookman, and James Madison.
- DJ Wingfield – ’13 Cincinnati Lockland SG: While transfer rumors around Wingfield swell more and more, news came out this week that the versatile wing is beginning to receive recruiting interest from Florida State. While the Wingfield recruitment has been a tight lipped affair, word is that he has offers from Ohio University along with strong interest from over a dozen other mid-majors.
- Monty Boykins – ’13 Lakota West SG: Boykins reports more high major interest coming, with West Virginia, Boston College, Northwestern, and Pittsburgh being the latest to reach out to the shooter. Boykins also has heavy interest from Penn State, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and a plethora of mid-major programs.
- Isaac McGlone – ’13 Columbus Bloom Carroll PG: McGlone, one of Ohio’s most underrated guards, took an unofficial visit to Bowling Green this past week. While McGlone doesn’t have any MAC offers at this point, he very easily could earn some with a strong July period for the King James Shooting Stars.
- Roderick Mills – ’14 Cincinnati St. Xavier SF/PF: Per his high school staff, Mills has offers from Miami (OH) and Kennesaw State; along with various interest from high majors from all over the Midwest. The versatile forward has a high ceiling and should see more offers come his way in July while running with the Queen City Prophets.
- Grant Benzinger – ’14 Cincinnati Moeller SG: Benzinger received his second offer over the week; just days after Wright State became the first school to offer the smooth rising junior. Kennesaw State became the second school to offer Benzinger, who is becoming one of the hottest 2014 commodities around Southwest Ohio.
