Recruiting Roundup

11 Jun

June can be one of the busiest months in the recruiting scene. With college visits, elite camps, and the brief month long break between AAU periods it is always an eventful month for both prospects and college coaches. Here is some news going around the wire that we’re hearing at Triple Double Prospects…..

  • Kevin Johnson – ’13 Cincinnati Summit PG: Early on Monday morning the 6’2 athletic, scoring combo guard committed to his hometown team; the University of Cincinnati. Johnson looks to be the Bearcats point guard of the future, with star Cashmere Wright slated to graduate after next season. For the full story on KJ’s commitment visit: CPHR
  • Evan Bradds – ’13 Jamestown Greenview SF/PF: Bradds surprised many on Friday by verbally committing to Atlantic Sun Conference powerhouse Belmont, a perennial NCAA tourney factor. Formerly an Ohio University commit, before Coach Groce left for Illinois, many expected Bradds recruitment to play out longer the second time around; but the 6’7 versatile forward has found a home in the Nashville based program.
  • Maverick Morgan – 6’11 Springboro C: It was heavily publicized last week when Morgan narrowed his list to six schools. The six that made the cut are Xavier, Dayton, Wisconsin, Vanderbilt, Illinois, and Minnesota. Morgan plans on visiting all of these schools throughout the month, and a decision very well could be coming soon.
  • Zack Denny – ’13 Germantown Valley View SG: One of the breakout players on the AAU scene the pure-shooting combo guard added offers over the weekend from Vermont and Cornell. Those two schools are now added to a growing list of Bowling Green, Northern Kentucky, UNC-Greensboro, and Albany that have offered Denny.
  • Ryan Logan – ’13 Fredericktown SF/PF: One of Ohio’s top sleepers, and a high riser in our latest ranking update, Logan received his first Division I offer from Lipscomb over the weekend. Logan is a versatile jack of all trades forward with toughness that could attract a plethora of more offers over the July period.
  • Devin Williams – ’13 Cincinnati Withrow PF: The rumor mill had been buzzing for over a month about the 6’8 superstar leaving Ohio for a year of prep school for his senior season. On Friday, Williams made it official when he publicly confirmed a transfer to Montverde Academy in the Orlando area of Florida. Williams has unofficially listed Xavier and UCLA as the leaders in his recruitment; but new offers from Florida and North Carolina State have him interested; as well as offers from Southern California, Tennessee, and interest from Arizona.
  • Antonio Campbell – ’13 Covington (KY) Holy Cross PF: Campbell added interest over the weekend from Kennesaw State to go along with a June visit schedule of Ohio University, Xavier, Dayton, Wright State, and Miami (OH). The only Division I offer that Campbell claims at this point is from Northern Kentucky.
  • Justin Bibbs – ’14 Dayton Chaminade Julienne SG: Bibbs shocked his former school of Dayton CJ on Wednesday when he announced that he will be transferring to Montverde Academy in Florida as well. Bibbs announced before Williams, and unlike Williams there was little talk before the announcement that Bibbs was shopping around for a new school.
  • Vince Edwards – ’14 Middletown SF: Over the weekend the 6’7 versatile combo forward took another visit to Purdue. For some time now the Boilermakers have been the rumored leader for Edwards; although he also has offers from Xavier, Dayton, Wisconsin, and interest from other high majors like Indiana and Ohio State.

Triple Double Prospects also had our ears and eyes at the Ashland team camp over the weekend, and got great feedback on the play of several prospects including:

  • Keon Johnson – ’13 Mansfield Senior PG: Johnson was offered on the spot by Ashland staff after a great day of games.
  • AJ Harris – ’15 Dayton Dunbar PG, Jeff Thomas – ’14 Norwalk SF, Ben Haraway – ’14 Norwalk PG, Aaron Jackson – ’13 Gahanna Lincoln SG/SF, Javon Bess – ’14 Gahanna Lincoln SF, Manny Powell – ’14 Gahanna Lincoln PG, Lamonta Stone – ’15 Bowling Green PG, and D’Mitrik Trice – ’15 Huber Heights Wayne PG/SG.
