Angel Rivera

Name: Angel Rivera

Height: 5’7
Weight: 160

Position: Point Guard

School: Hughes
Hometown: Cincinnati, OH

Class: 2014

Evaluation: Angel is as pure of a point guard as there is in the state of Ohio. A crafty and pass-first point guard, Rivera isn’t exceptionally quick but knows how change speed and direction, as well as leverage his body, to create space to shoot or pass the ball. Shows exceptional vision when passing the ball to teammates, the high IQ point is great at drawing in help and passing the ball off creatively to an open teammate. Very capable scorer that knows how to drive into contact and get to the foul line, while also showing off a variety of finishing moves to score around taller defenders. Angel is also a deadeye shooter out to the three point line, he shoots a nice ball with good rotation and has a quick, confident release. The best part of Rivera’s game at this point in his career is his pick & roll execution. Rivera thrives at using the ballscreen to create a shot for himself or a teammate and is hard to read defensively as he has a counter for whatever the defense throws at him.

Bottom Line: While size and elite quickness are going to be an issue for Rivera there are few players in Ohio with a more refined skill set then him. Top of the line ballhandler and passer that is a very good shooter and plays with swagger and a high IQ, Rivera is a definite college prospect. If he grows some more then his recruitment will really take off. All in all Rivera is an exciting player that took Cincinnati by storm in his first year in the USA.

Notes: Rivera transferred into Cincinnati Hughes for his sophomore year after moving to the United States from Puerto Rico where he was considered to be among the best young prospects in their country
