Triumph & Tragedy…….A Tale of 2 Knees

Saturday night in Central Ohio Basketball was a night of emotion. The intensity of City League statement games, the passion of a reclaimation project being completed, and the horrible travesty of possibly the area’s best having his season ended out of nowhere.

Westerville North lost much more than a game to Dublin Scioto 45-41. They lost their best player, Jack Gibbs, to what has been reported as a torn ACL. Prayers go out to the fine young man and his amazing family in their time of need. Gibbs has established himself in such a way that colleges such as Indiana State and others have already firmly stated he will not be affected in any negative manner within his recruitment process which is a blessing in its self. Josh Ashwill of Dublin Scioto led them in their victory with 15pts.

As one falls, another rises as Kyle Molock shows his recovery was successful from his blown out knee in leading a 4th quarter, down 10 points charge to a 55-51 win vs Thomas Worthington with 12 of his 22points for the evening. D1 signee Eric Weisenbach also scored in double figures for the victors.

A great game that seemed to fly under the radar was Olentangy Liberty beating Olentangy 59-56. D2 recruit, Jake Bischoff has been playing some amazing basketball to begin the season and led his team with 22points. A 6’3 three point marksman who also has started at PG for Liberty since his Soph season is a true Hidden Gem.

Northland or “The Juggernaut” as I have tabbed them, showed no signs of slowing with a convincing 86-42 win over Whetstone. Scott, Robinson, Potts, and Towns all finished with double figures.

Another D1 State contender in Walnut Ridge beat Independence 91-44 as Roy Alexander led with 21pts.

Brookhaven had a 100-50 win over Mifflin with Khalid King and Randall “Poonie” Clarkson each dropping 20.

Saturday Night marked a couple of “38 Special” performances among others. First, Eastmoor defeated Northridge 86-38 behind a 24-2 opening quarter. 11 players scored in the win for Eastmoor and 4 ended with double figures. Then one player, Mike Wells, scored 38points in leading his team to victory 66-59 versus Reynoldsburg.

Westerville North lost yet another game without Jack Gibbs to Olentangy Liberty 59-50. Sharpshooter Jake Bischoff again hit 4 3’s, this time ending with 18points for Liberty.

Worthington Christian lost to St Charles 44-34 with Isaiah Keene leading all scorers with 16points in a losing effort.

The Juggernaut, Northland took on Logan(WVa) and won again 73-49 mainly behind a 27-12 2nd quarter. Devon Scott had a double double and led with 19points. Jalen Robinson added 15, Jordan Potts 14points, and Ty Hairston 11.

Dublin Coffman came up short against Cleveland JFK 68-57. Kyle Molock ended with 22points again but this time it wasn’t enough. Brad Schulze also added 12points in the losing effort.
