Evaluation: Smooth shooting combo guard that is best off the ball as a scorer at this point in his career. During the month of July showed a killer intensity that he had not previously displayed and it paid dividends as his non-stop at the basket mentality led to some high scoring games. When he is taking high quality shots, which he is able to create anytime he wants to, there aren’t many SG’s out there better then Boykins. Capable ballhandler who can play the PG spot when needed he does a good job handling the ball off the pick and roll and making the right play off the situation. While he will always be labeled a shooter he is an above average athlete who can get off the floor and has a quick first step, while working on getting stronger.
Bottom Line: Versatile and big guard who is still reaching his potential, which is high major. Right now would be considered a steal at the mid-major level Monty will have every chance to earn a high major spot as he continues to improve his body and handle.
Notes: Boykins has committed to Lafayette, a Division I program from Pennsylvania.
