Gary Akbar

23 Aug

Name: Gary Akbar

Height: 6’4
Weight: 210

Position: Small Forward

School: Dunbar
Hometown: Dayton, OH

AAU: Ohio Hoopsters
Class: 2012

Evaluation: Akbar is a strong bodied combo forward with a nice scoring touch, particularly when driving to his dominant left hand. Plays with toughness and true physicality inside on both ends where he will bully smaller opponents he is capable of playing as an undersized PF. Still developing his jumper past mid-range but is a nice face-up slasher where he can set up teammates or smoothly score the ball himself.

Bottom Line: Gary should be able to fit in well at the Division I level due to his toughness and versatility. He is an accomplished winner who has played in countless big games and succeeded. At the small Division I level his ability to slide over and play a stretch PF spot in certain situations might be appealing to coaches who like to play small ball.

Notes: Will be attending Cleveland State.
