Deontae Hawkins

23 Aug

Name: Deontae Hawkins

Height: 6’7
Weight: 180

Position: Power Forward

School: Dunbar
Hometown: Dayton, OH

AAU: All-Ohio Red
Class: 2012

Evaluation: “Teddy” is a long armed combo forward who can really shoot the basketball. A pure scorer that can buckets around the rim with his face-up game or turnaround jumper but is best when setting his feet and letting it fly. A very good athlete that runs the break well and can finish strong with two handed dunks way over the rim. Tremendous talent that is still on the raw side but his potential is nearly unlimited.

Bottom Line: Hawkins is right on the fringe of being a great mid-major recruit or a high major that could pan out well over the long run. He needs to continue to get stronger and develop his handle but he has some nice tools to his game that make him worth the risk for high majors.

Notes: Signed with Wichita State in November.
