Hidden Gems Showcase Recap

With over 50 Division II, Division III, and NAIA coaches in attendance over 100 talented players showed up for Lucius Jones “Hidden Gems Showcase”.  Some of the usual suspects in ’12 and ’14 had big days but a lot of new faces emerged during the event. Here’s a look at the players that highlighted the event….

Top Performers:

KeChaun Lewis 6’3 SG Columbus Northland 2012: Talented wing dominated the event as a scorer, an athletic combo guard that has a tight handle and can make highlight reel passes.

Willie Moore 6’3 SG Cincinnati Aiken 2012: Dominated as a scorer, passer, and rebounder.

Devon Scott 6’9 C Columbus Northland 2012: Big intimidator was active around rim and dominant inside.

Matt Rhodes– 6’5 SG/SF Westerville North 2012: Shooter with a great mid-range game filled it up all day.

Carter Smith– 6’0 PG Upper Arlington 2012: Crafty and competitive guard scorer and passes the ball well.

DJ Blanks– 6’3 SG St. Vincent St. Mary’s 2012: Great athlete that got to the rim every time he wanted to.

Steve Walczak– 6’9 C Olentangy 2012: Skilled big with wide frame is a good fit for DII Lake Erie College.

Nick Archer– 6’8 PF Olentangy Liberty 2012: Big rebounder with nice touch caught interest of DII coaches.

Austin Gardner– 6’1 PG St. Johns Jesuit 2013: Smooth guard that can shoot as well as produce highlight assists. Showed a competitive fire and good leadership skills.

Tyler Miller– 6’4 SF Troy 2013: Big time shooter that can attack the rim, plays with a high motor. Might be a sleeper in Ohio’s class of ’13.

Tyrone Johnson– 6’6 PF Whitehall Yearling 2014: Athletic and strong post with a nice all-around game.

Shemar Waugh– 5’11 PG Canal Winchester 2014: Fiery young guard that can control the game and score. Scouts will have an eye on his progression all season after he turned in a great performance at the showcase.

Javon Bess 6’5 SF Pickerington Central 2014: Getting better and better as he transitions to the point, high motor.

Manny Powell 5’7 PG Gahanna Lincoln: Flashy young guard can really shake defenders as well as shoot.

Tyonte Robertson 6’0 PG Cincinnati Withrow 2014: Didn’t have his best day but showed he is Ohio’s top PG.

Ronnie Williams 6’3 SG Columbus Brookhaven 2014: Energetic scorer was all over the court on both ends.

Jaquan Hairston– 6’3 SG Columbus Africentric 2015: Talented athlete, watch out for this freshman! Has a near college ready body and a solid handle for a young player.
